Infra-Red thermometer for non-contact temperature measurements
The MLX90614 ESF is an contactless temperature sensor used to measure temperature without touching the target object using Infrared Rays. Both the IR sensitive thermopile detector chip and the signal condition ASIC are incorporated into the same TO-39 can of MLX90614 ESF sensor. The Integrated MLX90614 GY-906 is a low noise amplifier, 17-bit ADC, and powerful DSP unit thus achieving high accuracy and resolution of the thermometer. MLX90614 sensor can measure temperature in the range of -40°C to 380°C. Sensor can measure the temperature of an target object which is 2-5 cm far from the sensor. The sensor feild view is 90 degrees and returns the temperature value of all objects with in this feild of view.
MLX90614 sensor work on Stefan-Boltzmann Law, which states that all objects and living beings emit IR energy. The intensity of this emited IR energy is proportional to the temperature of that object or living being.
The MLX90614 infrared temperature sensor has 4 pins which are VIN, GND, SCL and SDA. The VIN and GND are connected to the 5V power supply and ground of the circuit respectively. The SDA is the Serial Data Pin and SCL is the Serial Clock pin which are used for the I2C communication.
